On the use of violence within the workers movement>>

What the capitalist class fears most is a united working class who has a Socialist consciousness. If the working class, as a whole, are conscious of their role in ending capitalism, they would rise up and sweep away this minority, the capitalist parasites. All work is done by salaried or waged employees.

The capitalists play no useful social function. They are dinosaurs living parasitically off the working class of the world. Yet, the capitalists of the world and in particular the monopoly capitalists, control the lives of virtually all the 6 billion people who inhabit the planet. Thus, the capitalist class will support all methods and efforts to oppose or weaken workers’ unity. They will even help create divisions among the working class. The main method of control of the working class by the capitalist class is by the capitalist state machinery, the police, the army, the courts, the prisons, etc.

But the capitalists will also try to infiltrate the workers’ movement through buying off leadership or even sending in agent provocateurs. The capitalists will also work with those elements who have a stake in maintaining a privileged position within unions or other workers’ organizations or parties. The biggest threat within the workers’ movement has been Stalinism, who some time after the successful Socialist revolution in Russia in 1917, killed off virtually the entire Bolshevik leadership that had led the revolution. This, together with the killing off and/or isolating of a number of oppositionists in Russia and several countries around the world has set back the struggle for Socialism by virtually 100 years.

The Stalinist methods included the use of violence, frame-ups and falsification to bludgeon opposition into the ground. Similar methods have been used by trade union bureaucrats against whoever threatens their privileged position. The capitalist class does not sit idle while this happens but actively sides with the trade union bureaucracy and even make resources available to assist the attack against the workers’ opposition. This is exactly what happened when the VWSA bosses sided with the Numsa bureaucracy to get rid of workers who were challenging their cozy relation with the capitalist class.

Prior to 1994 the working class was on the march against the ‘system’ which was keeping them in chains. The ANC-led popular front concluded a deal to keep the ‘system’ in place. Has the ANC changed the state’s role of keeping workers in chains? What have they done in the case of the 1386 VWSA dismissed workers? Have they not done what all capitalist states do- side with the bosses against the workers? The capitalist class uses different methods at different times in order to maintain control, but when the working class becomes too strong, the bosses lose their disguise and don’t hesitate to use fascist methods.

The capitalists or the state will plant agent provocateurs to attempt to mislead workers into using violence against fellow workers instead of workers directing their energies against the ‘system’ and the capitalists themselves. Generally the bosses use opportunist middle class elements and lumpen proletariat [gangsters] to be their shock troops to lead such attacks. This is the very opposite of workers’ democracy and workers’ control! These gangsters and middle class types are not interested in discussion, because discussion will just expose their position.

The capitalists will use the lack of Socialist consciousness and desperation of the workers to provoke infighting. The capitalists and the state agents will exploit the history of workers placing faith in leaders, despite such leaders having betrayed the interests of the working class. The union gangsters and bureaucrats are targeting WIVL with their threats of violence and expulsions precisely because we are helping to raise the Socialist consciousness in the working class. This work of WIVL means a death blow to the capitalist class and to the privileged positions of these very bureaucrats.

Simply put, would these gangsters in the workers movement use the same level of energy and force against the Standard Banks, Old Mutuals and VW’s who have mass dismissed workers and robbed many thousands of their pension money? NO, absolutely not! The question then arises: WHY NOT? It is precisely that these gangsters are directly or indirectly assisting the capitalists for their own selfish interests! They do not act from what is best for the working class as a whole.

We need to question the motives of any leadership that either supports violence of worker against worker in the labour movement, or who does not act against it. Let us root it out completely from the workers movement and deal decisively with all those who promote such methods. Let us save our revolutionary energy for the fight against the capitalist class, their state, their agents and all who act on their behalf to hold the working class in chains and in starvation on behalf of the capitalist class, locally or internationally!

FORWARD TO UNITY AND COMARADERIE AMONG WORKERS!

DOWN WITH BUREAUCRATS AND THUGS IN THE WORKERS’ MOVEMENT!

BUILD WORKERS’ SOLIDARITY AND WORKERS’ REVOLUTIONARY CONSCIOUSNESS!
